Houston, TX: From April 5, 2018 to April 7, 2018, OZÉ competed in the 18th annual Rice Business Plan Competition. The company won two prizes for a total of $150,000: the Courageous Womens Entrepreneurs investment prize from nCourage Entrepreneurs Investment Group ($100,000) and the Engine of Innovation Award from Station Houston ($50,000).

42 teams participated at the competition in four categories: life sciences, information technology/web/mobile, energy/clean technology and tech innovation. A cohort of more than 300 judges selected the winner based on the company that represents the best investment opportunity.

“It was a real privilege to share with the judges the huge opportunity for investment that exists on the continent of Africa and exciting that they recognized OZÉ as a vehicle to seize that opportunity. As we scale OZÉ, we are thrilled to be working with the teams at nCourage Entrepreneurs and Station Houston,” said Co-founder and CEO Meghan McCormick.

The Courageous Womens Entrepreneurs Investment Prize is awarded to

  • A woman as CEO or as a member of founding leadership team, and
  • At least one woman on the RBPC presenting team in Houston.

The winner of the Station Houston Engine of Innovation Award receives a 1-year membership in Station Houston, which includes access to a startup champion, mentoring, co-working space, and other membership benefits for up to three founding startup team members.
